Description

Fuzz Manta hit the ground running and kick off their fourth album “The Stonewolf” with the 34-minute title track. It goes through several metamorphoses. It begins with a sluggish groove and a simple but effective synth loop, then bass and organ. It’s a space art rock intro. Then it gets heavy: fast riffs, high-speed drums, plus the voice of singer Lene Kjær Hvillum. Now it’s heavy rock, dirty, snotty, brash, cheeky and yet melodic. At some point, it speeds up even more, before moving on to a relaxed section with organs and piano, before things pick up again with howling guitars and synthesisers. In the following four tracks, however, the Danes take a more compact, clearer and more ordinary approach. “Sooner Or Later” is 70s heavy rock full of riffs, with a fat organ, weird keyboards and a gripping vocal melody. The riff in “My Baby In Vain” is worthy of all honours. Fuzz Manta are confident and offer the right material for headbanging.
